After putting my hair up in a high ponytail, I pull on my hot pink spaghetti strap sundress that hits mid-thigh.

Twisting my torso a couple of times in front of my mirror, I make sure my pink panties aren’t showing through the thin cotton fabric.

I begin to put on a necklace, too, but change my mind. I want to look sexy for Colton, but I don’t want to overdo it. He’s not coming over here to see me, and I need to remember that.

I trot downstairs barefoot and make my way to our spacious family room at the back of the house. Inside there’s a poker table and pool table, a massive television, and even a mini-kitchen complete with a fridge. Jason is setting up the poker table when I enter.

“Hey, uh, since Mom and Dad are going to that benefit dinner for the hospital tonight, I thought I could make some snacks for you and the guys.”

Jason looks to me as he opens a deck of cards.

“You don’t need to do that.”

“I want to.” Oooh, that sounded a bit too eager, so I shrug. “I mean, I don’t have anything better to do tonight.”

“If you’re sure, that’d be great, sis. Colton likes that buffalo chicken dip you make. It goes good with our beer.”

“Cool. I’ll make it, along with a few other things.”

Hurrying up the stairs, I grab my purse and car keys and take off to the grocery store. Making all this food will give me an excuse to see Colton a time or two.

I miss him already, and the thought of what that means scares me. I might be setting myself up for heartache, but as of now, it all seems worth it.
